Barter means the exchange of goods or services without any form of legal tender. It is a form of trading that is egalitarian,that is ascertain the effect of equal right while trading. It has been in practice since the old world when money has not been invented, people trade goods for goods or goods for services without bothering about the inflation or deflation of prices as there was no such at the moment.
The earliest barter was the silent barter when communities or regions does not speak the same language whereas they resulted to measure there goods for goods without exchange of words in order to record a successful transactions despite the language barrier.
It is indeed an effective and a very good means of transaction as resources are not evenly distributed across the globe thereby provides a means for countries to exchange resources that are not readily available in their geographical locations with those that are surplus.
The interesting part is that this means of transaction is still in existence as countries still exchange resources till date,like exchanging crude oil for iron and so on.

The village is surrounded by thick mangrove forest with also the existence of a major river which connected it with neighbouring communities like Bakasi and Akampa and also Nigeria boarder with Cameroon.
The village head made it known during the course of an interview with a reputable TV station that the market has been in existence dating back to the 18th century. It started when fishermen brought fishes in exchange with farm produce like tubers, pepper and the likes.
The traders also made it known that the system is a very good one as it enables them feed their families with ease because they just go into there farms,get the available produce and head to the market to exchange for whatever it is they lack that is available in the market without bothering of not having means of legal tender. They show there children how the system is been operated and hope they carry it on even in there absence.
It is also the best means of transaction when money become unstable.
This market has been a tourist attraction site for some people who wish to experience the battering system in person.
